round 1

 As I was digging through the scrap bin and comparing some fabrics to my block and deciding what to do about the signature blocks I came across some orphan block extras that were given to me in a bag of that persons' leftovers.   There wasn't  enough to make it all the way around my center block so I cut squares for two of the corners.  When I decided that they would be round one (for sure)  I did my best to "make" them fit.  I feel good about giving them a home.  lol.  I have a piece of the floral fabric that I will consider putting into a future round of this project.  

They aren't exactly signature blocks but I'm using my imagination!

2024 SAHRR

 Here is the orphan block I chose.  It is from 2005 when I was going to Quilt Club at Craft Warehouse.  I made the block but never finished it into a placemat because I didn't want a placemat like that.  It was always fun to participate in the monthly challenge though.  I have a few companion fabrics so I can use those and some other fabrics in my stash to make something out of it.  Hopefully I will keep up with the sahrr.  

SAHRR finished

 I did the quilting with my walking foot and it is all a combination of stitch in the ditch and edge stitching.  I used a lavender thread.  The backing is a piece of fabric that has been in my stash.  The colors match up pretty well.  Had to add a piece to the edge of it to make it large enough.  I haven't put the quilt through the wash yet.   

I appreciated this quilt along.  I was wanting to do something with this bag of scraps that included the center (squares were sewn together).  So the SAHRR gave me the inspiration and patterns to get started and keep going.

 Saturday was National Quilt Day so I got out 2 projects that I started back in 2011 and 2012.  On Saturday I got Orca Bay all assembled.  On Sunday I got Roll Roll Cotton Bowl all assembled.  On Monday I sandwiched RRCB and started quilting it.  

I had Orca Bay blocks sewn together and all the pieces made (previously) so I had to sew the border pieces together and sew the borders to the quilt top.  Sounds easy enough.  LOL.  

Roll Roll Cotton bowl x-blocks were made and the string blocks were made except for sewing them into squares.  I had lost the pattern so I didn't have enough blocks for the entire quilt.  I used what I had and made this smaller quilt and I like the size of it.  I used all the extra red & white hst's that I made previously and sewed them around the quilt for a border.  Like I said, no pattern meant no final border pattern.  I like this look and when I get done quilting it I will use that same shade of red for binding.  No fancy quilting designs.  Just straight lines to hold it all securely together.    Orca Bay is too large for me to struggle with on my machine so I will have a friend quilt it on her frame and long arm machine.

SAHRR round 6

 I sewed scraps onto 4 inch squares of paper then trimmed to 3.5".   These are more of a wonky honky tonk log cabins.  Not sure if I will make more of them.  I am waiting to see what the last round will be before deciding how they will be incorporated.  

SAHRR stars round

 The fun has continued this week.  I like the wonky stars.  I placed them on the sides and used some extra 4 patches in between them plus some squares or strips, whatever it took to make the rows fit with the existing previous rounds I have completed.  

Plus we had some excitement this past week with an ice storm and power outages.  No snow.  Just ice rain and rain that froze when it hit the ground.  Lots of trees and/or branches down and power lines down.  My heart goes out to other areas of the country suffering much worse.
