Quilting Mod Challenge #1

Here is what I made for the Challenge from the fabric that was sent to me.  I bought the navy blue fabric to combine with it because it contrasted well and also is modern.  I purchased the pattern earlier this year because it uses quilted fabric.  Hadn't gotten around to making anything with the pattern yet.  When I got into the challenge I kept tossing ideas around and then remembered the  coat pattern and felt like this was an opportunity to make my own quilted fabric to make the coat with.  It is a size 4-5 child.

The sleeves seem long to me so they look good rolled up one cuff.  

The following pictures shows the fabric and then a couple pictures of my work in progress. 

I sort of made it up as I went along.  I kept thinking of ideas and changing my mind.  I didn't quilt the collar but it did use some thin iron on fleece to give it some body.  I didn't want the collar to be too lumpy.    I pieced together 2 fabrics for the collar because I couldn't decide which color to use.    The coat will be for my 4 year old great granddaughter.

Wonky scrap house

I was trying to follow the tutorial given on Persimon Dreams blog.  So I got some scraps out of a bag and put them on the table with an idea in mind.  When I trimmed the fabric I placed above the door I cut it pointed like a roof.  I was not happy that I made that mistake but decided to go forward and add sky.  Oops.  I was supposed to add background onto sides of house first.  So I added that on last.   It was fun.  These would get a lot easier after making a few of them.  I am saying this is a birdhouse and a very wonky sky!

I added another house that I just made.  I chose the doll scrap and built the house around it.  The "ground" was a trim from a block.  I raw edge appliqued it onto this block.

Spring qal first block

I have managed to make a block for the Spring QAL.   It was a litle tricky using stripes and getting them to all got the right direction.  Especially in the house part.  

Americana QAL block 1

I have completed the first minimum requirement for part one in the QAL.

I fussy cut the flag from the piece of fabric shown in the picture on the right.

Seahawks shirts

I made Seahawks shirt for 3 great grandchildren.  The shirts are size 9 months, size 3, and size 4.
I have been working on a couple blocks of the month also.  Pictures of those later.

I do have a picture of my first block of the Craftsy bom.  I have decided to make it scrappy so that I don't have to purchase fabric for it.

RCS15 January blocks

2 Blue blocks for January.  I got my colors reversed in the flying geese for the center of block 1.  So I arranged them to form an x , instead of having all the white in the center.   I am looking forward to next months blocks.

Minky quilt

Fabrics chosen by my granddaughter nearly three years ago.  Finally I have put the quilt together for my great granddaughter and will give it to her for her soon to be third birthday.  The back is minky too and I put it together QAYG sewing the strips to the batting and backing.  I started in the middle and worked toward each end when adding strips of minky.  The binding is minky also.

Of course we had no idea that there would be a new popular movie out that this soon to be three year old would prefer over owls.  (the F word- Frozen..... LOL)  But like all good 3 year olds,  she likes everything.  So this will be a cozy quilt and the fabrics are top quality.  (not from Joann's,  although I do buy fabrics from Joann's, I inspect the quality of them very closely before purchasing.)
